Interactive Effects of Problem-Gambling Severity, Gender and Alcohol Consumption on Electronic Gaming Machine Behaviour

Abstract While comorbidity of problematic alcohol and gambling use is well established, much less known about the way in which consumption while interacts with problem-gambling severity other individual differences. We hypothesised three factors that would interact on electronic gaming machines (EGMs) to influence four behavioural measures: preferred number lines bet, average duration play, spend per session machine denomination. The latter a measure gambler’s preference for monetary denomination EGM bets are placed (e.g. 1 cent, 2 cents, 5 10 20 $1), higher EGMs being risk since can be larger amounts money lost more rapidly. interacting were severity, presence/absence disorder biological gender. Finally, non-problem low-risk gamblers, concurrent related players, not players. These findings discussed context physiological psychological effects alcohol.
